Staff Profiles
Christine Cox, Essential Skills Co-ordinator
Chris’s job is similar to juggling, though with less emphasis on fine motor skills, spatial awareness or physical dexterity. She came to YES as a student on placement while completing the PGCE course at Bristol University and never managed to escape!
As well as co-ordinating tutors and provision, and trying to ensure continued funding she still enjoys teaching literacy and working with young people.
Jo Yeandle, Numeracy Tutor
When Jo can’t be nurturing organic vegetables in her garden, she likes nothing better than sharing her fascination with numbers with learners.
She is YES Senior Tutor and Internal Verifier, working on the CHOICES programme and with adult learners attending evening classes.
As well as teaching maths, Jo enjoys delivering staff training.
Noelle Evans, Literacy Tutor
Noelle was looking for a placement whilst studying at UWE: the venue where Bob Geldof had refused to sing "I don't like Mondays" at a gig and told the audience to go and buy the record instead...she didn't. Like most people, Noelle doesn't like being told what to do!
This is just one of the reasons why she sings the praises of YES: the students who come to YES are allowed to make their own choices about the English or Maths they want to develop and at the speed they wish to work and Noelle shares with YES the belief that individuals are capable of a lot more than they sometimes imagine they are.
Noelle knows first hand how difficult studying can be at times and finds learning is a process of give and take. The give and take goes on for her on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at YES and covers for Chris on occasions when she's busy elsewhere.
