English and Maths Group
YES runs informal literacy and numeracy groups for young people and adults at our base, 14 Frederick Place. These are small, friendly, mixed level groups. Students have individual learning plans based around their needs and interests. Accreditation is available at levels from Entry 1 to Level 2. Students are enrolled with City of Bristol College and are therefore entitled to use college facilities. We have PGCE students on placement with us from the University of Bristol. This means our students get lots of individual support. Daytime and evening groups are available.

Alternative Education including 1:1 Tuition
YES is on the Bristol City Council list of approved providers of Alternative Education. Schools can buy in our service to provide a placement for a young person who is, for some reason, not able to attend school.
YES can provide accredited or non-accredited literacy/numeracy support. Each student has an ILP and regular reviews of progress.

Functional Skills for the FLOW project
FLOW is a BTCV project. Trainees on the project come to YES once a week to work towards Functional English and Maths qualifications. We try to link the training with what they are doing in their vocational training at the allotment, out in the woods etc.
For more information about FLOW contact: Alex Forster, 07766 421301
WENN
The WENN project is managed by City of Bristol College. It is for young people aged 16-18 who are not otherwise in education, employment or training. Students have a personal tutor and work in very small groups. We aim to show them that reading, writing and maths are not frightening and can be fun.
The students say:
‘It’s a good place to learn and make new friends’ Gary
‘YES is a place that brings out potential’ Brian
‘The atmosphere is not like school. Tutors treat you like individuals.’ Corriey
‘YES is cool!’ Aaron
Students may be referred by Connexions or another agency or may refer themselves.
