English and Maths for Adults and Young People
Who is it for?
It’s for adults and young people aged 16+ who want to develop their basic skills in literacy and/or numeracy.
What happens?
YES is working in partnership with City of Bristol College. Classes are run at various locations in Bristol including our base at 14 Frederick Place, Clifton. There are daytime groups as well as evening groups. Students can go to one session or more than one.
Where can people learn?
• Connexions, West of England, 4 Colston Avenue, Bristol, BS1 4ST
• Fairbridge West, 22 Stokes Croft, Bristol, BS1 3PR
• YES, 14 Frederick Place, Bristol, BS8 1AS
• Priory Court, Priory Road (off the Wells Road), Knowle, BS4 2NB
What’s special?
YES provides an informal learning environment which is particularly suitable for students who need to develop further confidence before they are ready for a mainstream college course. Work is planned around students interests, enthusiasms and needs. All students have:
• A confidential interview before joining a group
• An individual learning plan
• Small groups, lots of individual help and support
• Teaching by trained staff
• Suitable learning materials
• Regular discussion of progress
• Fair and equal treatment
• A chance to get a qualification
What do students work on?
Each student has their own learning plan. This means that they decide the main things they want to work on in English or Maths. Some of the time students work as a whole group. At other times people work individually with lots of support, or in pairs. Groups are small and friendly and students have lots of support.
What other help can students get?
Students who enrol with City of Bristol College can use the learning centres. They can use CDs, videos, cassettes, computers and the internet as well as study packs and books.
How much does it cost?
Nothing! It’s free to you at the moment because we are a Partner Provider of the City of Bristol College. Students enrol as students of the college but attend their class at one of the YES venues. Find out more on the College website: www.cityofbristol.ac.uk
