Choices

Who is it for?

Choices, is a developmental curriculum project for Year 11 non-attenders. It provides personal education programmes for students from across Bristol. Bringing together Connexions West of England, the Youth and Play Service, schools and a range of partner providers including the Youth Education Service, the focus is on re-engaging the young people into learning. Choices aims to support young people to increase their participation in learning and secure accredited outcomes so that at the end of the year they can move on, with their peers who remained in school, into further education or training.

What is the programme?

The Choices programme offers a menu of short courses run by a wide range of statutory and voluntary organisations. Choices aims to give the young people the opportunity to learn a diverse range of new skills For some young people, work experience placements are also part of the programme.

All the young people have a BASE session close to their homes. At these sessions they benefit from Literacy and Numeracy tuition, provided by the Youth Education Service. The BASE session is also the place to bring together all their learning and reflect on the experience.

The young people have the opportunity to gain a range of qualifications including Wider Key Skills, Adult Literacy/Numeracy certificates, Duke of Edinburgh and the Youth Achievement Awards.
